We are officially in the midst of another season and frenetic fashion month, but not before we have already seen some of the hottest trends to emerge from the catwalks. Our staff has already started following the top autumn 2023 trends to look forward to as temperatures start to drop…again. New York Fashion Week is already well behind us (by the way, did you notice this season’s occurrences in our editor dispatch?). While there is still time to prepare your wardrobes, you can browse our favorite spring 2023 fashion trends if you aren’t quite ready to think about the upcoming round of chilly weather.
Let this be your comprehensive guide now that we’ve seen all the shows from New York, London, Milan, and Paris.

01 Tooty Fruity

Having a tasty autumn? I considered you to be. Juicy topics like fruit used to feel like a summer thing, but not anymore! The fruit basket is full for fall 2023, say companies like Area, Jil Sander, and Puppets & Puppets, so why not eat this trend while you can?

02 Circle Back

Yes, miniskirts were popular this season, but circle skirts were also popular. On the runways for Prada, Armani, and Dior, the 1950s look made an appearance in ways that felt contemporary for 2023. Prepare to see this feminine garment everywhere coming fall, whether it’s worn with stylish over-the-knee boots (one of the key shoe trends our experts spotted this season for fall 2023) or with comfortable kitten heels. There is no way to err here.

03 Free the Nipple (Almost)

We saw a focus on derrières in the previous season. However, designers are moving the emphasis forward this time. Be ready to see some unusual coverings, whether it’s an avant-garde bra by Puppets and Puppets with fried eggs on it or artistic appliqués from Gucci, Christian Siriano, or Bronx and Banco. It’s true that this trend might not be the easiest to wear, but it does give the feminine form a fresh feeling of attention. A decorative bra is a simple way to pull this trend off.

04 Leather Sets

Everyone is aware that the early chill necessitates a traditional leather jacket. But if you want to step up your leather style, why not think about wearing a matching set like Brandon Maxwell or Coach? Nobody objected to the fact that leather blazers and matching maxi skirts appeared frequently on the runways. Consider this to be your favorite biker jacket’s affluent big sister.

05 Dark Romance

You may already be aware of the popular dark academic TikTok trend, but the fashion industry is now looking into its romantic side. Rodarte made a triumphant comeback to NYFW wearing its trademark beautiful, ethereal looks, but this season, it took a darker turn that was reminiscent of the Black Swan costumes. However, Adeam and Sandy Liang, among others, also made reference to the topic with rosettes, Victorian-style accents, lace, and other elements. The American brand wasn’t the only one to do so.

06 Back to Basics

It’s official: Basic clothing and uniform attire are back after months and months of trends that came and went. Models strolled down the Gucci runway wearing wide-leg jeans, big jackets, and traditional button-down shirts. However, the label wasn’t the only one to highlight lovely essentials. At The Row, Prada, Dior, and Bottega Veneta, we observed them. You should be able to tell from that list alone that the fashion industry is moving more and more toward nouveau normcore, or the ordinary.

07 A Sheer Thing

Maybe you have realized, but the FW2023 fashion collections seem to be preparing you for warmer weather (take that for what it’s worth). Sleek mesh or romantic lace sheer paneling marched down the runways at Heron Preston, Coach, Proenza, and other fashion houses. It can be found on blouses, slip dresses, and many other items. Be ready: this trend may work better for your transitional-weather ensembles than your strictly winter ones.

08 Butter Up

Another significant color trend we noticed on the catwalks? Yellow butter. You can blame the “stick of butter” conversation that went viral on social media a few seasons ago or just the need to have a little more color than a neutral. In any case, this creamy shade is a pleasant change from our go-to tones and was included in the Givenchy, Chloé, and Aeron lines.

09 Seeing Red

There is a color that dominates the market each season. Red will undoubtedly be a popular color this season, especially during the fall and winter. Some fashion designers, such as Sandy Liang, PatBo, Silvia Tcherrasi, and Alejandro Alonso Rojas, swathed their models in the flaming hue, while others, such as these three. It should be obvious that you’ll be seeing this color more frequently.

10 Tailoring

It’s a breath of fresh air that designers have unquestionably resorted back to the tried-and-true fundamentals of traditional tailoring. Designers are giving our lives a bit more structure this autumn, from Proenza Schouler’s simplified blazers to Brandon Maxwell’s shorter suits. This may be exactly what the doctor prescribed in the midst of all the buzz about micro-trends.

11 No Pants, No Problem

Pants? In the fall of 2023, it appears that neither you nor I will know them. The spring trend may have been started by Kendall Jenner and Bottega Veneta, but you can be sure that fall and winter 2023 will be all about showing off your legs—every inch of them. At Miu Miu, Theory, Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, Sergio Hudson, and LaQuan Smith, the pattern was evident. This trend is for everyone, if the diversity of the designers is any indication.

12 Cool and Cozy

I always appreciate seeing fashionable outerwear on the catwalks, and this season was no exception. I can attest that this trend is one to have along with your best wool coats and puffers because I can get through any winter with a reliable shearling piece. This incredibly warm coat has become a definite classic thanks to designers like Chloé, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Isabel Marant who each put their own unique touch on it.
